Common Questions about Naturopathic Medicine
What is a naturopathic doctor?
Naturopathic doctors, like medical doctors, undergo extensive post-graduate training. But, unlike medical doctors, their focus is always on the patient’s holistic health and life experience.
Naturopathic doctors seek to address each issue by considering each seemingly disparate physical or mental issue that could be in play. They believe that the key to a healthy body and a happy mind is to retain balance in all aspects of wellness.
Why choose a naturopathic doctor?
Every patient’s healthcare choices are a little different, but there are common reasons patients come to Temple Natural Health for naturopathic services.
Some have been dealing with chronic issues that don’t improve in response to typical western treatments. Others want a more collaborative healthcare experience, in which their personal experiences are weighed more significantly in determining a treatment plan.
Frequently, patients supplement their western primary care with a naturopathic doctor in order to incorporate all healthcare traditions in their care plan.
Many patients desire a more direct relationship with their doctor in which their healthcare isn’t directed by what their insurance company will cover but rather what their body needs for true healing.
How do I choose a naturopathic doctor?
At Temple Natural Health’s Seattle clinic, we are lucky to have a team of naturopathic doctors that all play a role in our care team.
At your initial visit, you will be paired with an experienced naturopathic doctor prepared to guide you on your health journey.
Should you have a specific Temple Natural Health naturopathic doctor in mind, we can also schedule your first visit with that provider.
Our doctors offer a wide range of approaches from traditional diagnostic testing and prescriptions to energy medicine, such as kinesiological testing, homeopathy and Craniosacral therapy.
Is this the same as Functional Medicine?
Yes — in many ways. Our naturopathic doctors use a functional medicine approach to understand and treat the root causes of illness. Like functional medicine, we focus on how different systems in the body interact, and we aim to restore optimal function through personalized, whole-body treatment plans. The key difference is that our providers are licensed naturopathic doctors (NDs), trained in both modern diagnostics and natural therapies, and regulated by Washington State as primary care providers.
Is this considered Alternative Medicine?
That depends on your point of view. In conventional settings, naturopathic medicine is sometimes called “alternative” because it differs from the pharmaceutical-first model. But at Temple Natural Health, we see our care as complementary and integrative — working with the body, not against it, and empowering patients with tools for lasting wellness.
How is this different from Holistic Medicine?
“Holistic medicine” is a general term that means treating the whole person — body, mind, and spirit — rather than just isolated symptoms. Naturopathic medicine is a form of holistic medicine, backed by formal training and licensure. We address nutrition, lifestyle, mental health, physical function, and more, tailoring our care to the whole you.
What’s the difference between this and Integrative Medicine?
Integrative medicine combines conventional and natural therapies for the best of both worlds — much like naturopathic care. The difference is often in the training: integrative medicine is commonly practiced by MDs who adopt natural approaches, while our team includes licensed naturopathic doctors with full training in natural, physical, and lifestyle-based medicine from the start.

Temple natural health is probably in the top five natural health centers in the country with regards to what they offer. I have been going there for over 25 years, my health is excellent, thanks to their coaching and services that they offer. The staff is amazing, the owners have very high standards, and they are Hands-On making sure everything goes smooth. I am a client here for lymphatic drainage, massage. I brought my teen in for a surprise needed physical in order that she might take a diving class. They were able to schedule her the next week, and then they did the paperwork and bloodwork same day too. Dr. Maggie was great with her and the whole experience was seamless. The intake forms texted to me were my favorite part. I filled them out on my phone and it worked without some strange error.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Jamie Doughty is amazing. I was referred by a friend to visit here for lymphedema in my arm. My arm hasn't felt better in years. The electro lymphatic massage was so helpful. While there we also discussed my GLP-1 journey and medications. Found out some of my meds were canceling out other meds and some meds were being taken at the wrong time of day. After adjusting these recommendations I feel better and sleep better a week out. Will continue to visit here to get my body back on track. Wish I would have found her/them earlier.Posted on Google![]()

I recently had my first abdominal massage with Caitlyn, and it was an incredible experience. Although I've received many different types of bodywork over the years, abdominal massage was new to me, and Caitlyn immediately put me at ease with her warm, thoughtful presence. She took the time to understand what was going on in my body and explained how the treatment would address my specific concerns, which left me feeling completely supported. Her depth of knowledge really stood out. She seamlessly connected the structural and emotional aspects of the body, helping me understand how tension in the abdomen can contribute to pain in the neck, jaw, back, hips, and legs. During the session I could feel my body relaxing, and in the days afterward I noticed a significant decrease in my back pain and shoulder tension. I highly recommend Caitlyn to anyone dealing with pain, tension, or simply looking to feel more connected to their body. Temple Natural Health is also a beautiful, welcoming space with an incredible team. I'm looking forward to returning and feel completely confident referring friends, family, and clients to Caitlyn.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Doughty is an amazing doctor. I found her 8 years ago when I was struggling with a serious stomach issue that years of different gastroenterologists could not figure out. Dr. Doughty had me healing in no time. I feel that without her I would still be struggling and miserable. Dr. D is friendly and kind. Her knowledge is awe inspiring. I can’t recommend Temple Natural Health enough.Posted on Google![]()

I don’t currently live in Seattle anymore, but every time I return, the Temple of Natural Health is the very first place I visit to nourish my body with the necessary IV drip after a long airplane flight :-) I recently had my first electro lymphatic drainage session with Caitlyn Wright, and it was truly incredible. From the moment I arrived, I felt a deep sense of calm wash over me. Caitlyn creates such a safe, nurturing space, and her presence alone is grounding. During the session, I could literally feel my body relax and shift into a healing state it was deeply restorative and rejuvenating. I left feeling lighter, more connected, and genuinely supported in my body. It wasn’t just a treatment it was a powerful healing experience. I was so impressed that I immediately booked another session with her. The Temple of Natural Health is such a sanctuary peaceful, welcoming, and filled with beautiful, intentional energy. You can truly feel the care and vision behind it. I highly recommend Caitlyn and this sacred space to anyone seeking deep healing and reconnection. And a heartfelt thank you to Tim and Kristy for creating such a special and powerful healing hub. Much Love ❤️ MichellePosted on Google![]()

Dr Ara Walline has been guiding me for a few months now, via lymphatic drainage sessions and solutions for chronic sinus congestion and digestive issues--all of which have really been turning around. Definitely enjoying improvements from these treatments, and have been feeling quite well, thanks to Dr Ara & Temple Natural Health 🙂 *Wish to add: noticed another reviewer expressed not liking the new location.. my experience has been exactly the opposite: I much prefer Temple Natural Health's new location as compared to the old Tummy Temple. The new space is beautiful, serine and well thought out.. and BONUS: I always find easy parking!Posted on Google![]()
